Breaking Through to the Other Side!!!
Construction is moving along to expand and transform the Museum's historic site. We have just broken through the walls between the existing Hoch Laager Boardwalk Galleries into the future space which will allow us to expand our MakerSpaces, add new exhibits, a new gift shop, additional restrooms, multi-use classrooms for groups and parties, and staff offices. Watch our website and facebook page for updates. Photo right: We've opened up the wall for flow between our future reception area and the Book Nook.
Visit the website to learn more!

We are transforming our nearly 100 year old building for full year round use for exhibits and programs

Insulation added for new exhibit galleries, offices, and classroom/birthday party spaces

A new opening in the wall will lead you from our existing MakerSpace to the expanded MakerSpace

First Saturday Art Workshop: Kaleidoscopes
Saturday, July 6, 11am - 3:00pm
Dazzle your eyes by building  this spinning and colorful DIY Kaleidoscope filled with beads or other trinkets. Like a microscope or telescope, the optics in a kaleidoscope are used to enhance our vision in some way. Vision depends on light, and optics are used to control light by reflecting or bending it so that we can see in different ways. Kaleidoscopes use mirrors to reflect light into beautiful shapes and patterns.
All ages welcome, included with Museum admission

Sunday, July 28, 11:30am and again at 1:30pm

Time to Kick off Shark Week!!
Have you ever seen the inside of a real shark, maybe put your finger in its mouth? There’s so much to learn about sharks and so much to see when WCM Lead Educator Harmon McAllister teaches us all about how sharks move, eat, and grow. We'll even have a chance to see what's inside of a shark! Join the fun, maybe even sample a tasty piece of cooked shark meat and take home a real shark’s tooth!

Best for ages 7+. Sponsored by Con Edison and Woodard & Curran Foundation.  Included with admission, space limited

Young Discoverers
Every Wednesday, 11am - 11:30am

All summer long...Let's Explore the Shore!
We'll take full advantage of our wonderful location on the shore of the Long Island Sound as we bring out our sand and water tables with toys, shells and small toy water animals.  We will dig for “treasures” and enjoy water play.  When we come into the classroom we will sing a new song play a movement game and hear the story “On the Edge of the Sea” by Betty Paraskeras.  Let’s pretend that we are water animals. Can you guess what I am?  Everyone will be able to create a special craft to take home that will remind us of our trip to the shore!

Everyone come join in the outdoor fun!!!

Young Discoverers and Exploring Play are designed for children age 2-5 with caregivers. Sign-up begins when Museum doors open at 10am. Limited to the first 12 participants. first come, first served.

This Month at the MakerSpace

Think Summer! Flowers , bees, butterflies, and birds are visiting the MakerSpace this month...

We will learn about the parts of a flower, and have fun making our own.
We'll also learn about the life cycle of butterflies, moths, and other insects and you can try to make your own whacky insect with all the basic buggy parts!
And we'll also explore how birds' feathers and skeletons help them fly...HINT...we'll be using the Wind Tunnel for this!

At the end of July, we are changing our theme to "Light and Sight" and will explore prisms, rainbows, light and shadow, and how we see and how animals and creatures around us see things differently from us.

The MakerSpace is appropriate for all ages
